Why do I care about type 2 diabetes? Because as my doctor says, "birds of a feather flock together". With a brother with type 1 diabetes, I'm at increased risk for the 2nd version. Add to that the fact that my grandmother was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.
Why should you care about diabetes? Untreated diabetes can lead to:
- heart disease
- stroke
- blindness
- kidney disease
- amputation
- e.d.
PCOS, which I have been diagnosed with, is related to Diabetes and has to do with insulin resistance. I get checked for Type 2 Diabetes yearly. My brother also has Type 1 Diabetes, as you know and Type 2 Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and PCOS are all related to Type 1 Diabetes.

Agreed. Chris' grandpa died last year from sepsis caused by his last leg being amputated due to his POOOOOOOOOOR management (if you can call it that) of his Type 2 Diabetes. Really overweight, totally insulin resistant, etc. Sad stuff when you can control it with diet, exercise, and a pill. I love Biggest Loser and pretty much everyone on there didn't realize they had diabetes. Blood sugar issues are an obvious issue in our family whether diabetes or hypoglycemia.
